Meet Your Florist - Emily Clarke
H E L L O,
My name is Emily, the owner and head designer here at Ethereal Floral Farm. If you are someone who is close to me, you will know that starting my own floral business has always been a dream of mine. Now, after years of waiting, it is happening. While working towards finishing my Bachelor of Arts Degree at the University of the Fraser Valley, I ran into a few obstacles, as I'm sure many of you did as well, when the pandemic hit.
A little bit about me - I am currently in my final semester of university in pursuit of a teaching career. I love every aspect of history and learning other languages, so it was only fitting that I chose to major in History and minor in French. I allow my German roots and love of history and the French culture to influence my designs. Specifically, I love incorporating several different elements into a bouquet, adding texture and movement to my own specific style. I find that I draw inspiration from the intricate details of European architecture, following the lines of airy, whimsical, ethereal designs.
After experimenting in the garden last spring, I sat down, wrote out a plan and began to build several garden boxes. This past winter I had so much fun ordering seeds, corms, and tubers to plant in the garden for this upcoming season. I have already learned so much and know that I will only continue to do so. By no means am I an expert, but I am looking forward to exploring this avenue of growing my own flowers so that you can enjoy them in your home with the ones you love. Let me help you bring nature home.
Ten Random Facts About Me:
I am the biggest Taylor Swift fan you will ever meet.
I love cats - we have two kittens in the floral studio who are justified as mouse hunters but really we just needed an excuse to bring home more cuddly critters…
My favourite colours are all genres of yellow (mustard through sunshine yellow), muted sage green and dark evergreen.
I have a love for the French language, culture, architecture - really you name it. I cannot wait to visit the lavender fields in the South of France!
I have family in Germany and am inspired every day by the rich history of Europe.
My favourite flower is a lilac. It genuinely makes me sad that the bloom cycle is so short but in that short period of time, the air is filled with the most heavenly aroma!
I am a twin! I am lucky to have my best friend as my sister and twin. She will most likely be helping me with events and is also an amazing hair stylist.
I currently work at two other jobs - nannying and at a dairy farm.
Outlander and New Girl are my highly recommended shows to watch. They are very different but I promise you they are both worth it.
I have no idea what defines my music taste. It is a mix of Taylor Swift (yes she requires her own genre), alternative, Indie, Pop etc. Some of my favourite artists are Blake Rose, The Band CAMINO, Dermot Kennedy, Luca Fogale, Amy Shark, Maisie Peters, Bleachers, Valley… there’s too many!
